Stop the War Coalition members march through Birmingham

Members of the Birmingham Stop the War Coalition marched from Victoria Square in Birmingham to the Indian Consulate in Jewellery Quarter this afternoon.

Set up in the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attack, the Stop the War Coalition marched through Birmingham as their efforts continue in the fight for the freedom of Kashmir.

Kashmir is situated on the northernmost part of the Indian subcontinent and has been at the centre of conflict between India and Pakistan, who both claim it as their territory.

In the lead up to both the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy and their own founding, the march was a display of their stance on not only freedom for Kashmir, but for all countries embroiled in conflict between occupying nations.

Yusuf Farouk, community human rights activist, had this to say:

"The right to self determination must be given to all people and we will continue our fight until the Kashmiri people and all people around the world fighting for freedom are given freedom from occupation"

This event comes as the Taliban entered the Afghan capital Kabul today, leaving US Diplomats and the few remaining troops fleeing the country whilst taking any allied Afghans with them.

The fall of Kabul to the Taliban was inevitable, but clearly not expected so early, according to a US Official who spoke to Reuters just last week saying that Taliban fighters could isolate Afghanistan's capital in 30 days and possibly take it over within 90,

When asked what this will mean for Kashmir, the Taliban called it a "bilateral and an internal matter", according to news agency ANI on Twitter

The national StWC 20 year anniversary of the War on Terror is taking place at 3pm on Saturday 18th September, Conway Hall, 25 Lion Square, London.
