'I think we've bin forgotten about': how the Coronavirus has let routine waste collection slip

Living in a rural part of Lincolnshire, myself and my family have been proud of our bin collectors for doing such a great job during the nationwide Lockdown and emptying our bins every week as normal. The same cannot be said for certain areas in Birmingham, however.

Waste covering the street in Kitts Green (01/05/20)

Since living in Birmingham, I have made an observation that in wealthier areas, there seems to be a cleaner landscape. Whereas in poorer areas the bin collecting seems to be irregular, leaving many high streets piled up with bin bags.

However, seeing this picture, taken just outside of a food takeaway has shocked me. Not only is there a risk of vermin, but also a health risk if anyone were to come into direct contact with it.

This is the last thing we all need at this moment in time, a time where we all need to be as sanitary as possible.

This is a real issue that our council members should be addressing.
